The school notice that never made it home

School notices can get lost in bags or buried in WhatsApp groups. Noticeboard gives parents one place to find school updates.

It is a familiar evening. A parent gets home from work, checks a busy WhatsApp group and discovers that tomorrow is dress-up day. Somewhere between the homework questions and weekend photos, the school’s announcement disappeared.

We think school communication is broken when families have to hunt for the basics. Teachers can send the same reminder several times, yet parents still struggle to find the date, document or instruction they need. Nobody set out to miss the message. The information simply lives in too many places.

One place for the important things

Noticeboard gives South African schools a dedicated channel for official communication. Staff publish notices from a web dashboard. Parents use the iOS or Android app to find school updates, calendar events and shared files.

That means a parent can return to the school’s information without scrolling through an unrelated conversation. A teacher can share a document through Drive and keep an event in the calendar, rather than relying on another forwarded message.

The right update for the right families

Not every announcement belongs to the whole school. Circles let staff organise audiences around classes, grades and school teams. A Grade 2 reminder can go to the relevant families, while a school-wide announcement reaches the wider community.

Role-based staff access also helps the school organise who manages its updates. Everyday conversations can carry on alongside this official channel. Noticeboard gives the announcements a home of their own.

Think about parents’ privacy

In a regular WhatsApp group, members can see one another’s phone numbers. Joining the class group can mean sharing a parent’s personal number with people they do not know. That makes unwanted contact possible, and messages or personal details shared in the group can be forwarded beyond it.

Noticeboard gives schools a dedicated channel for family updates, with Circles to choose the audience. Choose the families who need each update, and take care with any personal information included. Before sharing sensitive details, check the audience and what is visible in member profiles and contact displays.

Start with a simple routine

Start with one class. Explain how families join and where to find notices, files and events.

Plan support for families who cannot reliably access the app. In South Africa, data and device access matter. The goal is to make school information easier to find and act on.
